When the movie Life of Pi was being filmed, they found a guy with some boats that would be perfect for the film. They requested three boats for three filming locations, however they ended up using just one.
Watch for this boat to be used in a creative way in an upcoming project – maybe a spa, maybe something else?

Think back to 2020, March, at the very beginning of the Covid Lockdown Era.
At Legendary Acres Hobby Farm, our journey began with an unexpected rescue—one that set the tone for all the compassionate work we do today. In Mrch of 2020, we were called upon to rehome over 80 full-grown, 20-year-old koi fish. These majestic creatures had been living in a pond, set to be demolished when the owner sold his home and the new owners were starting from scratch. The situation for these fish to find a new pond was dire, and they needed help.
Saying, sure, we would love to give the koi a new home, we then needed a plan. Some of the fish could go to Al’s trout pond, but they wouldn’t all fit in that one place. We needed more pond space.
Determined to give them a better life, we embarked on their rehoming mission. Armed with nets, buckets and optimism, our team carefully scooped each koi from the murky waters, ensuring their safety and comfort during the transfer. We sent out five pickup trucks with huge rubber trash cans in the beds to be filled with water and the live fish, to then be transported thirty miles down the freeway to their new home. It was a daunting task, but the reward was immeasurable—the chance to provide these beautiful fish with a new, peaceful home.

The other two sourced for the movie were put up for sale, and we happened to buy it to use on a future project (side note, we’re in the swimming pool business – check out LegendaryEscapes.com if you’re curious.) This boat we converted into our koi pond wasn’t used for filming but is the sister to the one that was!
Once settled into their new pond, the koi began to thrive. Their vibrant colors and graceful movements brought a sense of tranquility to backyard, and what we didn’t know at the time was that they were the start of this Legendary Acres Adventure. They quickly became beloved members of our animal family. Watching them glide through the water, we were reminded of the importance taking time each day just to observe them, and just be.
We have since rehomed most of the largest fish to a much larger pond so they can flourish, keeping about fifty of the smaller fish and the offspring of those original rescue fish. They continue to flourish in the pond, now also used by ducks and geese as a relaxing hangout, and during the winter as a non-frozen water source for the animals. Their story is just one of many that inspire us to keep doing the work we do, just saying yes when a new animal needs a home—rescuing, nurturing, striving to understand them, and giving every animal the love and care they deserve.

Fun things happen to us all the time! Sandi gets a FB message about Koi fish needing a new home, says sure- we can rehome fish. (March 2020) 5 days later we have three Koi ponds- the team goes on a scoop and rescue mission and we are now in the Koi Fish business! Some of the largest fish are originally from Japan, 20 years old! Just for fun google Koi Fish Shows and Sales- it’s insane!! Al is loving every minute of this! The boat is in! The koi are waking up from their winter dormancy and we’re just starting to see them eat their fish food. Al takes a moment to reflect on our good fortune, even during these difficult days for the world. There is always, always, something to be grateful for.
