How many chicks should one start with? The lady working at Rural King said 20 was a great number to start a flock – so we opted for 5 chicks of each type. That gave us a great variety of colors and types. We would come to find out the ladies at Rural King are very excited if you say you are there to pick up chicks, and there is really no limit on the number that they will enthusiastically add to your chicken transport hotel for you.
