“SURE, WE CAN GET A FEW CHICKENS.”

And THAT, apparently, was the beginning.

Sure, we can get a few chickens.

Then somehow we were rescuing koi fish.

Then came a couple of mini potbelly pigs.

Then ONE alpaca.

And at some point somebody said the extremely dangerous words:

“Let’s just go LOOK at a goat.”

Friends, you do not “just look” at goats.

Fast-forward to today and look at Legendary Acres.

Goats. Alpacas. Pigs. Chickens. Ducks. Geese. Peacocks. Emus. Rabbits. Cows. Cats. Dogs. Kittens. Birds. And an ever-changing assortment of animals who needed somewhere safe to land.

Some were planned.

Some were rescued.

Some were surrendered.

And some probably arrived because we have absolutely no ability to understand the meaning of the phrase “WE HAVE ENOUGH ANIMALS.”

What started as a few chickens slowly became a hobby farm.

The hobby farm became a place where animals needing homes started finding us.

And eventually that little idea grew into Legendary Acres Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation, sanctuary and education.

Looking around today, it’s almost impossible to believe where it started.

A few chickens.

That’s it.

So here’s some advice from Legendary Acres:

If anyone ever looks at you and says…

“Hey, want to go look at a goat?”

Just understand that five years from now you may be standing in a pasture feeding an emu while somebody asks where you’re going to put the next litter of rescue kittens.

And somehow, we wouldn’t change a thing.
