One of the best parts of sharing farm life here on Patreon is getting to introduce you to some of the animals that make Legendary Acres such a wonderfully chaotic place—and Muscovy ducklings definitely belong near the top of that list.
They are ridiculously adorable: tiny fluffy bodies, oversized webbed feet, curious little faces and a very determined waddle that makes it look like they always have somewhere extremely important to be. 😂
Muscovies are also different from the ducks most people are used to seeing. Instead of filling the farm with loud quacking, they communicate through soft peeps, trills, huffs and the most adorable little tail wags.
They’re curious, personable and very quick to figure out exactly who brings the food. When they’re raised around people, they learn who has the treats—and who can be persuaded to stop working for a little duckling attention.
As they grow, they become amazing farm birds. Muscovies are strong flyers, excellent foragers and enthusiastic bug hunters. They patrol the property searching for insects while looking remarkably like tiny dinosaurs assigned to farm-maintenance duty.
Watching them transform is one of our favorite parts. Those fuzzy little ducklings grow into beautiful adults with striking feather patterns, iridescent colors and the distinctive faces that make Muscovies unlike any other ducks on the farm.
Every clutch surprises us with a different collection of colors and markings. It’s a little like opening a box of assorted chocolates—except everyone has webbed feet. 😂
We may officially be at DUCK CAPACITY here at Legendary Acres, but apparently nobody remembered to tell the Muscovies.
And honestly, when the results are this adorable, it’s very difficult to complain. ❤️
Thank you for supporting Legendary Acres and helping us continue caring for all the wonderful, quirky animals who call this farm home. We love being able to share these little behind-the-scenes moments with you!
