Welcome to Legendary Acres Hobby Farm! We launched our farm adventures in 2020 with zero plans of ever running a farm, but it has turned into an incredible journey.
It all started with our Golden Retrievers. Just as daily life in Michigan shut down, we stepped up to rescue and rehome over 80 mature koi fish, some up to 20 years old! We quickly built our “Life of Koi” pond out of an old lifeboat we had acquiredโreasoning that if a boat keeps water out, it will also hold water in if you turn it into a pond! A random run to Rural King and a glimpse of cute, chirping chicks meant chickens came next. Soon after, we rescued Izzy and Franky, two mini potbellied pigs.
From there, we kept growing and adopting more animals. Our beautiful property pulls double duty as our farm and the headquarters for Legendary Escapes Pool Co.
Our current farm family includes:
- Golden Retrievers & Barn Cats
- Over 200 Chickens & Ducks
- 5 Peacocks, Turkeys, Guineas, and an Emu
- A Blue and Gold Macaw, Cockatiels, and a Sun Conure
- Mini Rex and American Chinchilla Rabbits
- Nigerian Dwarf Goats & Huacaya Alpacas
- Mini Potbelly Pigs & Miniature Steers
Some of the animals we take in will stay with us forever, while for others, we are just a safe stop on their journey to a forever home. For however long they are with us, they are a beloved part of our family.
History of the Steampunk Mansion
We call our farm headquarters the โSteampunk Mansion.โ We purchased this beautiful brick farmhouse in 2016, and the story of its acquisition is an adventure for another day!
The Hacker family built the homestead in 1883, originally naming it Big Oaks Farm. The property’s rich history begins with a Land Grant from the U.S. Government. William Hacker first settled the land after emigrating from Germany via a tugboat over the Great Lakes through Canada. Williamโs life included a fascinating family history filled with mystery, romance, and a few major plot twists!
William and his first wife raised many children, including sons who fought and died during the Civil War. Later, his son Frank Hacker married Matilda Euler, and together they built this brick farmhouse in 1883. Originally encompassing a massive amount of acreage, Big Oaks Farm was reportedly the very first property in Livingston County to feature electricity, which powered their progressive daily milking operations!

Meet the “Lucky Cluckers”
Our adventures in raising baby chicks started a wonderful community trend! We call our flock the “Lucky Cluckers” because that is exactly what they are. After all, they get to call the Steampunk Mansion their home.
As a core part of our Mansion Menagerie, the birds live in a completely custom chicken coop built by the fabulous team at db Designs. This spectacular chicken palace proudly resembles King Fridayโs castle from Mr. Rogers’ Land of Make-Believe!

Farm Animals
We started our farm journey with a simple love for animals, and it quickly grew into a bustling, beloved sanctuary! Our adventure began with our Golden Retrievers, followed by rescuing over 80 mature koi fish and building them a unique home in an old lifeboat pond. A quick trip for farm supplies brought our first baby chicks, and soon after, we rescued Izzy and Franky, our two miniature potbellied pigs.
Today, our beautiful farm property pulls double duty as our family home, a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue, and the headquarters for Legendary Escapes Pool Co.
Our growing mansion menagerie now proudly includes:
- Canines & Felines: Golden Retrievers and friendly barn cats
- Water & Aviary Life: Beautiful Koi fish, over 100 chickens, ducks, turkeys, guineas, five majestic peacocks, and four resident emus
- Exotic & Companion Birds: A cockatoo, blue and gold macaw, sun conure, lovebirds, parakeets, and cockatiels
- Small & Large Livestock: Mini Rex rabbits, Nigerian Dwarf goats, fluffy Huacaya alpacas, miniature steers, and mini potbellied pigs
- Reptiles: Painted turtles and a friendly Russian tortoise
Whether these animals stay with us forever or just use our farm as a safe harbor on their way to a forever home, they are all a cherished part of our family.
