Sometimes you plan something simple.
And sometimes… it turns into something much bigger.
Muscovy Duck Rescue in Michigan: We Went for a Few… and Came Home With a plan to rehome All 70 of Them

We heard about a rescue that had been overwhelmed—
over 70 mature Muscovy ducks, all at once.
Too many.
Too fast.
Not enough space.
They were doing everything they could…
but you could feel it the moment we got there—
that quiet urgency when good people are stretched past what’s possible.
Al and I made the trip thinking we’d help a little.
“Let’s take a few,” we said.
Just enough to make a dent.
Just enough to help ease the pressure.
But then you start looking around.
Duck after duck.
All different personalities.
All needing space.
All depending on someone figuring it out.
And there’s a moment—if you’ve ever been there, you know it—
where “a few” just doesn’t feel like enough anymore.
So we looked at each other and said it out loud:
👉 “We’ll take them.”
All of them.

It wasn’t a perfect plan.
It wasn’t even really a plan at all.
But it was the right thing to do.
So we loaded up…
trip after trip, crate after crate…
and brought them back to Legendary Acres.
Suddenly the farm felt very different.
Louder.
Fuller.
A little chaotic in the best way.

We kept a small group here—
the ones that felt like they needed a place to land,
the ones that just fit.

And for the rest?
We got to work.
Reaching out.
Connecting with people.
Finding homes where they could thrive.
One by one…
they started their next chapters.
That’s what this place has become.
Not just where animals stay—
but where they pass through
on their way to something better.
And moments like this remind us:
This isn’t something we do alone.
It takes:
- People who care
- People who share
- People who step in when it matters
Because sometimes you go for a few…
…and come home with all of them.
