Today was a big day on the farm for our bucklings!

We had the vet out to wether (castrate) five of our boys — and if you’ve never heard that term before, here’s what it means:

👉 Wethering is the process of castrating a male goat so he becomes a wether instead of a buck.
Wethers are typically:
• calmer and easier to handle
• less aggressive
• don’t develop the strong buck odor
• make amazing companion animals

It’s one of the most common and responsible things we do on a farm when a goat isn’t being kept for breeding.

Four of our boys — Pickles, Mac, Rocket, and Wildfire — went through it today.

They are currently:
• a little groggy
• slightly offended with us 😅
• and very much questioning their life choices

…but they’re recovering nicely in their cozy space in the barn, complete with a heater to take the chill out of the air. 💛

Cash, however, got a pass today.

He’s been dealing with some diarrhea, so we’re holding off until he’s feeling better.
And honestly… he’s the one I’ve had my eye on as future goat dad material, so we’ll see what the future holds for him. 👀

We are incredibly lucky to have access to an amazing farm vet who makes house calls —
$60 to come out and very reasonable pricing for procedures like this.

That kind of care makes all the difference when you’re trying to do right by your animals.

Running a farm and rescue means days like this add up quickly — vet visits, medications, feed, bedding, heat… it all matters.

Sometimes farm life is messy.
Sometimes it’s expensive.
But it’s always worth it for them. 🐐💛
